James Robert "Jim" Leavelle (born August 23, 1920) is the former Dallas, Texas homicide detective who was escorting Lee Harvey Oswald through the basement of Dallas Police headquarters when Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby.Leavelle was born and raised in Red River County, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a sailor on board the USS Whitney during the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He joined the Dallas Police Department in April 1950 and retired in April 1975.In a 2006 interview Leavelle, who was the first to interrogate Oswald after his arrest, recalled joking to Oswald before the transfer, " 'Lee, if anybody shoots at you, I hope they're as good a shot as you are.' He kind of smiled and said, ‘Nobody’s going to shoot at me.’ ”He personally believes that Oswald acted alone in killing Kennedy, and said that in a 2006 discussion, he was told by Oswald's brother Robert that he believes the same thing, "because I knew my brother." The suit Leavelle wore on 24th November 1963, the handcuffs used to restrain Lee Harvey Oswald and the grey fedora Jack Ruby wore when killing Oswald are now on display at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, Texas.
Leavelle is to some very suspect in his actions. What do you think about him?I just saw him on "The Day Kennedy Died" and my thoughts when I listened to him talk was his apparent anger, Maybe he felt he was put in harms way on purpose? What are your thoughts on him?
Joseph McBride author of Into The Nightmare said years ago, when he was doing his research, that Henry Wade let him come in to the police station and listen to tapes of that day November 22nd 1963. present at the time when he was there listening to the tapes was Jim Leavelle. McBride at one time stopped after listening to tapes for a while and said "wow you guys, meaning the police, seem to be calm and not upset over the President being shot! Jim Leavelle replied quote "It was just like a Nigger getting shot on the south part of town to us"! That's a sick response so I don't think much of Jim Leavelle.

really interesting, I have done a lot of study on Tippet and Oak Cliff, in fact it is my main interest in the Assassination, I also think the key lies in what happened in Oak Cliff. Thanks for adding that video.
Why did Jim Leavelle wear a white suit on 11/24/63 the day Lee Oswald was murdered? His explanation has always been that his wife laid out the white suit on his bed that Sunday morning. But as you look at this footage no other DPD or Detectives wore a white suit that whole weekend! Even at the Friday midnight press conference Leavelle was wearing a dark suit! Some of this footage I have not seen before:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d89goIzHDQg

I don't know if Leavelle was involved as that film clip tried to show but he sure was one sorry cop that morning. He was like the tin man in the Wizard Of Ozz.You talk about a slow reaction, man that guy was in slow motion.Over all these years now Leavelle has been honored as a top cop when he should have been demoted in rank and pay.You can bet one thing if he had been in the military and this had been a military transfer of a prisoner he would have been brought before a military tribunal to answer questions on what happened and how had he let the most important criminal figure in modern time get killed while handcuffed to him !!! He might have been peeling a whole lot of potatoes after that screw up !!
