Nixon back channeled with South Vietnam to not participate in the Peace conference until Nixon was elected, to hurt Humphrey in the election. Reagan back channeled with Iran to not release the hostages until Reagan got elected, to hurt Jimmy Carter in the election. They were all crooks as far as I know from Johnson to the present except Jimmy Carter. And he got hamstrung and ridiculed. Being a president with a conscience is a losing political strategy.

Carter had balls, to lay off over 1000 Cia agents and to get rid of George Bush, he was the last real President. I’m surprised he didn’t get sacked instead he lost the reelection

I didn't realize Carter took a bite out of the CIA and George Bush. He was also the only president in my lifetime that didn't engage US troops in a war, and he also brokered the only Middle East Peace deal. He must have been public enemy number one for the military industrial complex and the neocons. On the other hand he had been naval officer, so maybe they didn't want to kill one of their own alumni. He's a remarkable man who lived his religion and his conscience and does to this day. I agree with all of his political opinions and was happy to vote for him in 1976 and 1980.
