It has been claimed that the descendants of a number of John Birch Society leaders of the Kennedy era are now big players in the Tea party movement. Has one spawned the other or simply evolved into it? While the JBS is still around it is not the force that it one was, its bastard child like a cancer grows.I agree with Joe that not all Birchers should be tarred with the same brush over what some of their herd did in the early 1960's, but if the likes of Loran Hall, Harry Dean and others are to be believed, the Society unwittingly or otherwise provided finance and contacts for much of the clandestine activity of that time which we now deplore.As another (if oblique) example, it is probable than some Jews voted for the Nazi party in their rise to power - anti-semitic rhetoric was nothing new in Germany at the time so why be worried about the Nazi ranting about this? Else, a number of the anti-Batista Cuban rebels who fought alongside Castro in the Revolution were either later executed by his regime or else became the violent anti-Castro rebels. In all of the these circumstances many will have ended up thinking "Oh what have we done?" whilst others the response is simply "This was not our fault - nothing to do with us". The law of unintended consequences ... or otherwise.
