This week, my attention was called to an article published in 2008 by the Journal of Political Philosophy, co-authored by Professor Cass Sunstein of the University of Chicago Law School, and entitled "Conspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures," Obama appointed Sunstein to head his Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Reformulated in terms that are immediately relevant to our interests, Sunstein's thesis is that it is a proper function of the United States Government to actively undermine the efficacy of those who propagate the belief that President Kennedy was assassinated by a conspiracy within the government itself (specifically the CIA, but presumably allowing for one or more conspiracies among other participants), even by using covert means to disrupt their communications. There is nothing novel about this idea. During 1966, the United States Information Agency secretly employed the English barrister, Arthur Goodhart to rail against Mark Lane, and this propaganda effort "came home to roost" when Goodhart lectured on the assassination controversy at the headquarters of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York. In 1967, the CIA itself circulated a memo instructing its overseas attaches on arguments and tactics that might be used to undermine critics of the Warren Commission. There is, in short, a long history of official government initiatives to counteract the critics. I need not underscore that Sunstein is one of the self-styled elite of the law profession who have made it their mission to defend the integrity of the Warren Commission and it's lone assassin thesis. What is new is that Sunstein, himself now an official of the Obama Administration, having been a close friend of the President before his election, has openly and unashamedly endorsed the use of subversive tactics against American citizens exercising their First Amendment rights of free speech, assembly, and petitioning for the redress of a longstanding grievance: the government's refusal to disclose the truth about the assassination. Because Sunstein employs familiar socio-psychological babble to characterize those who believe one or more conspiracy theories, I shall not deign to his mode of "analysis". His scheme of argument is simply abominable. Of more particular concern is Sunstein's suggestion, using the Oklahoma City bombing as his prime example, that if left unchecked, conspiracy theories inherently threaten the stability of government by posing the nascent threat of violent action, either by individuals, small groups, or an aroused populace. Sunstein admits that he can offer no evidence to support this theory. For him, the inchoate harm of conspiracy theories in itself provides sufficient evidence of their danger, and the impetus to act accordingly. His recommendations include that "government enlist independent groups" to rebut theories and employ "cognitive inflitration designed to break up the crippled epistemology of conspiracy-minded groups." He speaks of "disabling" the purveyors of conspiracy theories and "attempting to immunize third-party audiences from the theory's effects." As I see it, Sunstein stops all too short of favoring physical coercion to eradicate the threat he perceives, albeit that seems to be the logical extension of his views. Regardless, it is his open endorsement of active government involvement in suppressing communicative activities that should arouse the alarm and outrage of all who believe in democracy and self-determination. We can all understand why this article has not attracted the attention of the mainstream press since it was published, nevertheless, I believe that Sunstein has given us adequate warrant to demand his resignation from the Obama administration and, in the absence of same, a congressional inquiry into whether, how, and to what extent he has sought to implement his stated beliefs in his official capacity. He spent two days of talking with me. The first day I wouldn't even talk to him about the Kennedy situation. We got into sports, weather, generally about prison, local things till I got comfortable with him. The next day, after I had thought it over all night, Joe West seemed like a pretty nice guy, I really liked Joe. He had a magnetism about him. The next day we sit down and got serious and then we started talking. I sit in the visiting room with Joe. They gave us a pencil and paper. I sketched the entire Dealey Plaza out for him, without any maps, without pictures, nothing present, and I explained to Joe at that time .. because Joe wanted to know where was I at. And I said: I'm going to put an X on the paper, to signify me, but this X is not in the correct spot. I said: When the time comes, then I'll put the X where it is supposed to be.W - What had you told him that Joe knew you were in Dealey Plaza?JF - Oh, I asked him. He said that someone had informed him that I was there He said he had a reliable source. And I didn't know for quite a while who that source was. It was quite some time later before I learned the fact that the FBI was aware of my presence as early as 1964. Because I never knew that anyone ever knew about me. But Zack Shelton, from what I understand, and I'm only quoting this from hearsay, that Zack was the one that stated and gave to Joe West the information on me: that I was in Dealey Plaza.J - That's my understanding. Did you ever actually confess to taking the shot to Joe West?JF - No, I never did.J - Make a statementJF - well, the whole thing is, like with Joe West .. Joe West died. A couple of years ago, maybe a year and a half ago, I heard through the grapevine, and I won't go into the party that brought this information to me, they said that someone had tampered with Joe's medication and he had received the wrong medication. Because they wanted to silence him.J - That's (also) according to his wife .W - And why would they want to silence him?JF - We had .. I shouldn't say we, Joe West had the case in court, he wanted to exhume John F. Kennedy's body. And that's what he was fighting for. And at this point when I talked to Joe West, I explained to him that John F. Kennedy had been hit in the head with a mercury round, a special load. At this point I explained to him he can use this in the court to have the body exhumed because there would still be traces of mercury because the traces of mercury do not disappear. That will always be there. So this is what Joe West wanted to go back with, more evidence, and use this to get Kennedy's body exhumed. To look for traces of mercury.(It should be noted that James Files believes that Kennedy's body is not buried in Arlington. He overheard a conversation of CIA deputy director Theodore Shackley telling that the body had been "dumped into the sea". The day before this interview James Files pointed out to me that if the exhumed body would not contain traces of mercury, then it would not be Kennedy's body.)J - And the court had accepted his case?JF - The court had accepted his case. The fact that President Obama has someone like Sunstein, along with the likes of Geithner, Gates and Clinton in his administration, tells you all about his agenda. To say that I'm VERY disappointed in Obama is an understatement. I actually feel betrayed with his policies thus far, not to mention all the promises that he made in his campaign that he has broken. There are a LOT of people that voted for Obama that feel the same way. The watered down healthcare bill that is being considered is a prime example. People are being forced to buy health insurance from private insurance companies. NO public option. No medicare for people 55 and older. Obama is certainly better than Bu$h in many respects, but his policies are very similar. Obama talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. Wayne Madsen thinks that Obama was a CIA operative while he was at Columbia University. Look at what Obama has done for the CIA since he became President. The war in Iraq has stayed the same, while he has escalated the war in Afghanistan. He has also protected the CIA from prosecution in terms of torture tactics. I'm afraid all your letter will do is bring more eyes from the CIA and NSA upon this site and this forum. You know what? Good. They need to know that people see through their bullshit.

"They" have been keeping us arguing about things like "republican versus democrat" or "liberal versus conservative." It's classic "divide and conquer." "They" keep us arguing about these things, while they run away to the bank with OUR money. Has anything really changed since Obama was elected? We're still in Iraq and Afghanistan. Major companies were given taxpayer money under the guise of "too big to fail." It was a scam. In a true capitalist economy, if a major company "fails" other smaller companies would take up the vacuum that is created. I had hope for Obama too, but what has really changed? If we look at previous postings on this issue, who is really running things? We already know it. Look in the direction of bankers and defense contractors (people with money invested in the status quo), and your answer is there. It's the same with the 9/11 issue.
