At 88, James had a good, long life. Brother of Peter Graves (Mission Impossible, Airplane etc.), another one of my favorites. Arness was also in the original The Thing movie. Marshal Matt Dillon was on TV on Gunsmoke for 20 years. Not a bad run!

It was John Wayne who was orginally offered the lead role of Matt Dillon.
