Santa Cruz Mountain Fire

(Please forgive the vanity of the following post....)Have you guys heard about 'my' fire?Second time in 14 months I've had to evacuate.Here's a photo of me from the last time-

Thom, gee are you doing ok? I'm familiar with Santa Cruz because I was stationed at Fort Ord for 4 years from 1988-1992. Loved the area. Our thoughts are with you.

My cousin is a firefighter in Thom's region of California. She is quite busy as you could imagine. Thom...I hope things get under control soon my friend.

Thanks boys. Was given the mandatory evacuation order on Thursday, and was allowed back last evening. Real smokey, but otherwise all is normal, though it will take a day or two to get back into the routine. Looking forward to catching up with you-

Stay safe my friend. California has the wild fires, but this is the time of year that Florida and the entire Gulf Coast worries about hurricanes as well, not to mention the entire east coast, especially the Carolina's. A few years ago we had four hurricanes in one year, and the eye of two of those hurricanes flew directly where we live. In the eye, it's very eerily calm, but the other stuff is very scary. We had two very large pine trees in our backyard that year, and it was a bit stressful watching both those trees sway about wildly. Several pine trees in our neighborhood went down that year, but our's stayed up. But then a couple year's later, we had another storm that took down one of the pine trees and the tree very narrowly missed our house. I love living in Florida, but I hate the rainy season and I hate hurricane season. It's great to be up in Wisconsin this time of year, although the weather right around Lake Michigan is also very weird.

I didn't even know where Bonny Doon, CA was until I saw them mention it on the news regarding the fires. Anyway, I'm glad you're okay.

The photo was from last year's fire- when I tried twice to win a Darwin Award.This fire was bigger, but I didn't get quite so close. Back in the house now. I was in the middle of the great quake of 1989 too! I feel a bit like Forrest Gump-Cheers!

I'm out of my normal routine, that's for sure. The wife and son are visiting Oma and Opa in the old country, and I've got a gigantic work project. Oh, and that evacuation thingy.Hey, thought you might like this-
