The full film was not up 6 mths ago.I put this film second to JFK its premise is brilliant. Len Also did a fantastic interview with the Author of the book Loren Singer.This is one of Lens best interviews he's done. Great film Seamus. No doubt. This particular era (the 1970's) had many films like this... like Executive Action and Winter Kills. All were and are fantastic.

All were and are fantastic.Yeah I've heard Winter Kills is really good big guy. Jesus I agree the late 60's and 70's were a great era for film really gritty, really dark and tough indeed I find them so much more hard edged, challenging and generally realistic than the shit we get today. That film within a film sequence in the parrallax view is total and utter genius its just chilling. Do you know of any other good hard hitting montages like that. The only thing I can think of is a Clock Work Orange?

Clockwork Orange is a classic. Yes...that era had some fantastic films. A couple other favorites of mine from then are Taxi Driver and Network.Comedy was outstanding then as well, with the Monty Python films, the Woody Allen films and the Mel Brooks films.

Oh god and yeah the comedy was sublime. I kinda put the death of grit alongside crap like Top Gun. I think An Officer and a Gentleman though a smooch fest had far more balls. Looking back on the eighties and the Reagan years it was generally a pretty grim time for cinema all things considered mate.

Yes...the 80's were a very confusing time. I got married after all. But we did get TMWKK in 1988, plus a few great baseball (if you like baseball) movies like Field of Dreams, Eight Men Out and Bull Durham.

Great movie. The thing about those movies was the actors that were pretty good athletes were in the roles as baseball players. Looked pretty realistic. Speaking of actors, Goldie Hawn's main squeeze, Kirk Russell, was once in the LA Dodgers farm system, before he hurt his arm. Another good baseball movie was the original Major League, filmed in my hometown of Milwaukee. Charlie Sheen was an excellent ballplayer in high school. Then there are bad baseball movies. Like Fear Strikes Out with Tony Perkins in the role of Jimmy Piersall. My sister throws the ball better than Perkins did in that movie. Perkins looked very out of place in that role as a ballplayer, except when Piersall had the nervous breakdown, which really happened.
