LBJ's Swearing in Picture on Air Force One on PBS
I was watching Antiques Roadshow last night and this was one of the items that was on the show. I guess you know now what I watch on Monday nights.http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/fts/or ... 13_ss.html

Kirk, I don't watch that show. I am afraid I will see me on there for sale.Martha says she should sell me. She could make money twice. once when she sold me and then again when they returned me and payed her to take me back
Re: LBJ's Swearing in Picture on Air Force One on PBS
Howdy Joe,Sounds like Martha has a good head for business. The show is sort of an addiction for me. I think about all the things I threw or gave away that are worth a lot of money now. I was a little shocked that Sloughton was on it with his pictures. He said he only heard 3 shots, but didn't know where they came from even though he was 5 cars back from JFK. The interesting picture is the one he took of LBJ in the Oval Office after being summoned to take his picture. He needed LBJ to look like he was doing something, so he had him sign the swearing picture. Very odd moment in History.Kirk

yes I like shows like that but seldom catch it on anywhere.Wouldn't you love to spend a few hours talking to him?The guy I would have liked to talk to was Kenny O'Donnell. He also died young 53. he was also aid to LBJ. that sort of surprises me some.
Re: LBJ's Swearing in Picture on Air Force One on PBS
Agreed, I bet there was a lot of awkwardness in the White House, and LBJ wasn't known for his manners to begin with. I am not sure who I would like to speak with other then Oswald that did not live long enough to tell the tale. I have been reading and re-reading his answers and actions to questions about his whereabouts before, during and after the assassination. He seems very calm considering what it going on, and very direct. He knows that he has been set up, but has a belief that he will be proven, if not innocent at least not guilty of the crimes. He really doesn't have a clue about Tippet, when asked.

The Wink
Congressman Al Thomas was the center of the trip.In Horne V it's clear Al Thomas' ceremonial dinner the night of the 21st in Houston was the anchor for the date.Thomas had been placated by putting the Manned Flight Space Center in Houston. He said he was dying of cancer. No way could JFK not be there.April LBJ said JFK would be having a luncheon in Dallas.Connally leaned on Jerry Bruno and Jerry Behn, the advance man and the White House Secret Service chief, to make the luncheon site the Trade Mart. The route from Love Field to the Trade Mart went through Dealey PlazaThe better photo on Air Force One is That's Al Thomas winking.Joe, you mention Kenny O'Donnell. You know he and Dave Powers heard gunfire from the Grassy Knoll but dummied up to please the Secret Service. Saw it again in rereading Horne V to review it on Amazon.People say, hey, how could there be a conspiracy? How could they keep it a secret?I'll tell ya how: they told everybody shut up or you'll start a war with Russia and forty million Americans will die in the first half hour--but after the assassination, the defcon did not change. QED it was a lie, a plausible denial, a coverup--for a coup d'etat. To put that jackass in the Oval Office and start that war and make Allen Dulles do his chicken dance.

Phil,The wink and nod photo has always been disturbing to me. I knew Jack Brooks when I was kid. He is the Congressman on the right. You can tell he is numb and hasn't a clue.Kirk

Another thing I have been looking at is the so called switch in the route to get on Elm St. so the Motorcade would pass in front of TSBD. This cannot be true as in order to get on Stemmons Freeway you must exit via Elm St.Unless the route change was made further back just to get to Dealey.I still want to know who gad the football that day?

Let us not forget the name Jerry Bruno in all this. I know you haven't, nor has Michael Calder. Just in case folks have forgotten, look at this from a thread awhile back titled Ruby...Re: RUBYby Michael Calder on Sat Apr 24, 2010 4:28 am Phil Dragoo,Two days. No notes. No tapes. Two honks. One bang. Case closed. Cinched.Wow. Just wow.You mention in Horne V the conflict between Bruno and the governor. Jerry Bruno is a main suspect of mine as far as setting up RFK in bringing him into the pantry and the waiting assassination team. Looking at Bruno's actions in Horne V as a possible suspect in setting up JFK, anything there? www.jfkcia.comMichael Calder --------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Phil Dragoo on Mon Apr 26, 2010 8:31 am MichaelI thought of you when Jerry Bruno came up in Horne's narrative of the Connally arm wrestling. You will want to read it yourself and test each link, but my own takeaway is that Connally--Lyndon's Boy John--told all the JFK advance people, "It's my way or no way."Connally pressured all JFK's people to override protocol, security, every vestige of prudence in order to kiss his ass.Did any one of them in hindsight suspect there was something off about Connally's insistence? Did no one--until Horne--question Connally's later revision of history in his claims it was Kennedy who insisted on the Trade Market, the fundraisers, the Texas trip? The way Horne presented it, it was Connally who set the venue and thus the route. We may safely presume Connally was on the same page as Johnson--having been Johnson's bitch since 1939.Did I say that or only think it?Since 1963 we've found that, like Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, these were all, all honorable men.To me anyway, it looks like Jerry Bruno played quite a part in leading JFK & RFK to their deaths!

Jerry Bruno
BobMy tentative sense of Jerry Bruno is that he was an innocent loyalist.Horne presents Jerry Bruno and Jerry Behn, advance man and White House Secret Service chief, opposing the Trade Mart venue as it had 60 exits and interior catwalks. In this matter, Connally (serving as fish for the kingfish) would not be moved.Bruno was on the same rug as a half dozen others when Connally/LBJ pulled it out from under the president's men.In Los Angeles, Bruno had left on a plane long before the entourage journeyed down from the suite through the pantry to the podium and back through the pantry.Laying out 1968, we have Tet, which crushed the enemy but which Cronkite sold to LBJ as a defeat for the U.S., which precipitated LBJ's resignation in March.Followed by King's killing in April (involving a CIA clown on the Lorraine balcony with King).Followed by RFK's masterfully choreographed slaughter in June--and behold the CIA connections of LAPD's Pena and Hernandez and the obvious MK-ULTRA patsy and the Cesar ties, and the lookalikes a la Oswald.A hit attempt on Wallace. The Chicago display of Daley's police army. The narrow victory of the action man under Ike.But going back to Bruno, the center of gravity lay with LBJ who was fronting for Brown & Root, the generals, the CIA. There wasn't a chance JFK wasn't going through Dealey Plaza. And as for RFK, I'm not so sure the pantry route wasn't the entourage's default plan all along, simply to spare the weary candidate and his pregnant wife the mass of celebrators flooding the ball room. What we need to know--and Raymond Chandler is on the case--is who was lurking perhaps in the shadows of the partition waiting for Manchurhan Manchurhan to leap out and bark like a dog.
