Dear Global Forum Members and Readers:
THE KENNEDY ASSASSINATION - 24 HOURS AFTER, LYNDON B. JOHNSON'S PIOTAL FIRST DAY AS PRESIDENT, 2009 by Steven M. Gillon.
"Steve Gillon expertly guides us through the cloud of confusion, grief, rage, and stark terror that followed the shots in Dallas. He
immerses us in the moment, rendering events in real time and remarkable detail. As Gillon makes clear, these twenty-four hours
cast a long shadow from which Lyndon Johnson never emerged."
Jeff Shesol, author of MUTUAL CONTEMPT: LYNDON JOHNSON, ROBERT KENNEDY AND THE FEUD THAT DEFINED A DECADE
"Few relationships in recent American history have been icier than between the Kennedy clan and Lyndon Johnson. This beautifully
written and deeply researched book on JFK's assassination and LBJ's first twenty-four hours as president goes far toward explaining
why."
James T. Patterson, Ford Foundation Professor of History Emeritus at Brown University and author of BROWN vs.BOARD OF EDUCATION
"Steve Gillon has provided a riveting account of the crucial period immediately following JFK's dramatic assassination. It is you-are-there
history as its best as Lyndon Johnson, thrust unexpectedly into the most powerful office n the world, struggled to prevent the killing of
a president from precipitating World War III and splintering the nation along idealogical and racial lines."
Randall B. Woods, author of LBJ:ARCHITECT OF AMERICAN AMBITION
"With shrewd judgment and riveting detail, Gillon reconstructs Lyndon Johnson's chaotic and consequential first twenty-four hours
as president. At last, we have a book that asks the right questions about the Kennedy assassination - and one that answers them
in a gripping, wholly fair-minded narrative."
Bruce Schulman, Professor of History, Boston University
"THE KENNEDY ASSASSINATION - 24 HOURS AFTER reads like an American Macbeth, a tale of blood, fierce loyalty, and consuming
ambition. From Dealey Plaza to Parkland Hospital, aboard Air Force One and to the corridors of power in Washington, D.C., Gillons's
narrative never falters as he dissects the death of a dream and the birth of another."
Randy Roberts, Distinguished Professor of History, Purdue University
"Steven Gillon's utterly engrossing book enables us to walk in Lyndon Johnson's footsteps on one of themes pivotal days of the nation's
history. Bravo."
Laura Kalman, Professor of History, University of California, Santa Barbara

My Commentary:
Was LBJ involved with the prior knowledge and planning of the Removal of JFK ? Or was LBJ as truly awe struck, dumbfounded,
shocked, and unprepared as was the American nation, and perhaps the World ?
As a sponge I tried to absorb not only the facts, but the actions, appearance, posture, reactions, reflections, responses, sentiments,
statesman's ship, stature, etc., of LBJ from each and every perception that I could make.
Did LBJ act and appear surprised and unnerved as he quickly became POTUS ? Or was LBJ more like one who had the inside track that
he was shortly to replace the soon to be assassinated POTUS JFK in LBJ's life long home court state of Texas ?
thoughts...
best...
